coolant smell from vents/heat and temp fluctuations
a week and a half ago i was told my fan clutch and harmonic balancer need to be replaced
last night i drove up and over a 7' snow bank and my sway bar wasn't disconnected.
the sway bar disco bracket bent a little. still not sure how that happened. maybe when i came down hard on the other side of the bank.
other than that i didn't see any other damage.
this is the first "off roading"i have gotten to do since my lift and tires
and I forgot to disconnect the sway bar
tonight on my drive home down the highway
theres a coolant smell coming from the vents/heat and temp fluctuations around 1/2 way point. I couldn't find any leaks. it didn't over heat but the temp was fluctuating. I was afraid it would overheat eventually
Is it because of the fan clutch? what about the smell?
please help

The coolant smell might be your heater core. I had that smell and didn't realize it until my heater core spit fluid all over my windshield and I got in an accident. Just my opinion but some of the more experienced guys will probably know what it is more specifically

I agree with Blind Driver. A lot of times coolant smell from the vents means the heater core is leaking. If that is the case than you could be sucking air into the cooling system causing the fluxuation in temp. You might not see a leak yet because the coolant is trapped (for now) in the heater core housing.
Just a thought.

Smelling coolant (sweet) in the cab is almost always a leak in the heater core.
Check around the firewall for hose leaks, but this is probably the core itself.
Unfortunately, the repair is a PITA. The part is cheap, but unless you can do the work yourself, the labor will kill you at a shop as it is about a days job.

update
I popped the hood this morning and found a coulpe things.
i remembered something I saw on here about a golf t stuck in this thing
having something to do with a/c. and realized it had come diconected
after i reconected it there was no more coolant smell in the heat a/c
its hard to see cuz it was cracked on the back but the radiator hose was compleatly cracked
and the other ones and in really ruff shape as well and leaking a little
the back part of this thing with the three hoses and bell thing has a nipple
ans looks like something should bne conected to it but i found no loose hoses
the hose conected to the "gray round thing" lol was cracked and disconected as well so i cut it and stuck it back on
im gonna try and get some new hoses today and hope everything works out
