Maybe look in the radiator fill hole and measure the depth to the cap plunger seat. If that is longer than the plunger on the cap it won't ever seat properly. Cap plunger needs to be such as to compress the spring when installed.

Well I measured as above, the reach of the cap & the depth of the rad collar are about the same....
Checked my old mustang & its dimensions are also like this though.
Weird...
