Coolant overflow question
I have a 2000 xj, coolant is coming out of the radiator cap when its hot and I shut the truck off it doesn't seem to be putting anything into or pulling out of the overflow. I checked the hose it was clear, and when the hose was disconnected it was coming out of the fill neck where the hose goes.
Is there something else I can check for our a plugged hole somewhere else
I just did a flush because there was allot of rust and I put a new head on do wanted out all clear

This.
Pressure moves coolant through the tube into the bottle, if you have a bad seal at the cap you don't have pressure, and that's where the coolant is going to escape.
Double check for movement of coolant after replacing the cap. You should see little/no movement when cold, then plenty of flow when it gets up to temp. If there's movement cold, someone may have removed the thermostat. This will need to be addressed as well.

I've put a new cap on, new thermostat, new water pump. And put a new head on the engine a month ago (out had the crack between 3 and 4). If I let the coolant leak past the cap it goes down low enough to stop leaking. The overflow bottle still isn't getting anything. I'm not overheating and my upper radiator hose gets to temp after a little while so I'm pretty sure the thermostat is working properly.
Should I just leave it alone if it's not overheating? Can you overfill the radiator at the neck? I thought the bottle was to catch the excess coolant when it got hot and expanded am I thinking wrong

What brand of cap did you replace the original with? By not having the overflow bottle catching the hot coolant, you're asking for some big time problems. Air bubble will get caught in your system, since there is no coolant for it to suck back in when it cools down. Get a big enough air pocket in your cooling system, and you're just asking for it to overheat.

It's a motorad. I just checked everything after driving it a couple of days and it looks like it's sucking coolant from the bottle now. It's gone down some. And there is no noticeable leaking right now.

If that's not your problem, you might try another radiator cap. Stant and Carquest (which is made by Stant) are usually good quality.
