Default Coolant flush step-by-step!!

Hi all,

Could someone please tell me how to do a coolant flush at home on my 4.0 XJ??
I need every single step, as I've never done anything like this before!!

I've looked around a fair bit, but I can't find a guide that goes into enough detail for me. If I've missed one, feel free to point me in the right direction though!

Thanks in advance!

Best way is with both the t-stat cover and water pump off. Stick a garden hose in the t-stat hole and flush thru the pump hole.

Next best way is remove both hoses from the stat cover and remove the bottom rad hose from the water pump. Stick garden hose in one of the heater hoses, then in the top rad hose, then in the heater hose nipple on the stat cover. This prevents crud in one place from being pushed into another place. U certainly don't want to push the big lumps of crud that are inside the head/block to the small passage ways in the heater core and radiator.

Step 1: buy radiator flush from your local store.
Step 2: read the directions provided on the product.

Thumbs up '90 Coolant change

Drain with engine cool.
1 Remove front grill to access petcock valve. Open valve and allow coolant to drain into bucket. Remove expansion tank cap.
2. Loosen clamp to thermostat hose. Hoses stick where clamps wrap around. Use channel lock pliers where clamp was lightly clench and twist break hose free. Twist and pull off hose.
3. Get a radiator flush liquid and pour in pressure relief tank. Leave cap off until thermostat opens.
4. Use distilled or hose water and fill into pressure relief tank. Then fill rest of water through thermostat hose inlet. Move heater lever to heat. Start engine.
5. The 4.0 with expansion tank have tendancy to form a large air pocket to form and the water pump does not move thte water though the system. Keep an eye on the temp gauge. It may take a few tries to get the air pocket.
6. Attach hose to T stat
7. Drain radiator flush and repeat with clear water. Then add 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water.
