Got a question about the coolant, have a 00 cherokee sport. Coolant looks red and looks like oil is getting in there? Could it be tranny fluid?
Thanks

Could be, Radiator is also the tranny cooler.. Did you put the coolant in or someone else. They may have used red coolant. Oil would look milky, I imagine Trans fluid the same.

Coolant pic in our '98 XJ bought at city auction 12/09. Haven't got a clue about the factory fill.

Without seeing it, it's hard to say but if it looks to be fairly clear red probably long life coolant. If it's milky looking might be trans oil in the coolant.

These days I think all antifreeze/coolants are extended/long life regardless of their color. Every brand/color I saw on the parts store shelf says 5yr/150K mile extended life.
I just bought the cherokee last month, checked the coolant then and it was a clear red color. Changed the oil and since then it has been dark red? The only thing I added to the oil was Lucas Oil. The oil and tranny fluid do not seem to have a "milky" appearance on the dip stick and both smell normal.
I think I'm going to drain the radiator and throw some stop leak in and new coolant.
