Default Converting Instrument Panel to Gauges

I want to convert my stock panel of Fuel, Speed, & 4 small idiot lights in the corners to another stock panel of Fuel, Speed, & 4 small gauges in the corners. Do I need any new parts to make the gauges work properly or do I just reconnect the wires?

I think it's just plug n' play. BTW we call the ones you have now "idiot gauges" lol

To do the swap it is plug and play as long as you have the correct year cluster... Then all you need to do is is change the sensors in the motor from the light sensor to the gauge sensor...

So I'll need 4 new sensors. Doesn't sound like too muck work & it'll be a huge improvement.

Just a heads up, the sensor for the temp gauge may not be the one on the water pump housing. On my '92 it's at the back right on top of the engine.

you'll only need the temp sensor and oil pressure sensor
the tach and volt gauge are prewired

Default Panel change

On the 97-2001 Cherokees the oil and water sending units are the same for both panels. I did the change in my 98. When you have the panel off it would be a good time to clean the contacts and check and or replace the dash bulbs

I would love to hear from the original poster as to whether or not he was successful. I want to do the same thing.

I've done it... just get a gauge cluster from the junk-yard. you'll need new oil pressure sensor and a new coolant temp sensor.
