The symptoms are as follows. A consistent squeak comes from the front at all times expect for when the breaks are lightly pressed. Same loudness regardless of speed however, speed is proportional to how quickly it squeaks. I've got a 2001 sport with 73,000 miles. I've read its a possible wheel bearing but havent gotten any further than that. Any suggestions?

any thing that turns in the wheel is a suspect here gotta tear it apart,from brakes to axle u-joints

 

I'd make sure the pin on the brake pads isn't making a connection with the brake rotor.

Most, if not all, brake pads are designed to let you know via a small metal tab or pin that they are wearing thin. That metal tab makes contact with the rotor when a certain amount of pad has worn away.

If this truck has factory pads at the miles you are at, I'd say that is the most likely cause.

Its pretty simple to check for as well.

And if its been long enough, you'll see a nice groove cut into your rotor.

Prolly just needs pads, though.

 

2 things come to mind: one is that you have a bad pulley and its causing drag on your serpentine belt, or, as i was reading just the other day, there is a bolt, or two, that have loosened somewhere on the intake manifold, or on the engine block somewhere, idk, lots of threads on specific location. but the loose bolts is a whistle, not a squeal. pop the belt, spin the pulleys if one sticks, you have answer, take a wrench to the bolts on engine, just make sure not to over tighten!

Brake pads were replaced at 58,000 but I will check for the tabs right now as that seems to be a possibility in addition to it being the cheapest

Why would the squeeking go away when the brakes are pressed?

 

It could also be that the sliders just need grease.

I believe the squeak is coming from the passengers side so I jacked her up and took a picture. When I rotated the rotor, it squeaked so I think you guys are right and it is more than likely just the wear tab. However, I couldn't find such a tab on either side of the car. Provided are two pictures I took so maybe someone can point where I should look. Thanks

 

pins are at top or bottom or pad, u look like you have a good amount left its prob not the pins. Take the caliper off and spin it, see if noise persists

 

the tabs would be on the back pad, the one u can see so well. That is also the pad that usually wares the fastest

 

this is true, i had a brain fart and forgot about that second pad
