Default constant clicking sound when key is turned on

I just brought home a cherokee that doesnt run. i got it to roll over but it will not fire. when i turn the key on i get a constant clicking sound from what i beleive are the 4 relays that are mounted by the battery on the fender. if one of them relays were bad would it cause it to make that noise and also, would it keep the engine from starting.

what do those relays do exactly??

Need more info.

Try to remember that a lot of people post questions similar to yours, meaning they leave out important info such as the year, engine, and tranny. Occasionally those threads go unanswered for a while.

Help us help you...fair enough?

I'm in a auto class and we have a car in now that would do the same thing as your describing make sure you have a good battery good connections and make sure the starter solenoid is in great working order and it should start. I'm not 100% sure on it but could work for you.

the cherokee is an 87 but the previous owner swapped in a newer 4.0 and never could figure out how to get it running. im not shure what year the engine is out of. the battery is in decent shape
