I have a 95 Jeep Cherokee Country. The Expansion Plug in the back of the head went bad, so I removed the head, replaced the plug, new head gasket, torqued down the head, yada yada. Anyway, now it won't start, Im leaving to go overseas in a few days, this thing is stuck in my dads garage, he's starting to get pissed, I need to get it running ASAP. I noticed that a set of three wires was broken, the connector to these wires runs off of the wiring harness section that runs the injectors, the wires are orange, black, and tan/black or maybe grey/black. I cant find the other end of the broken wires to trace it back. I was wondering if anyone could tell me for sure if this is my problem. Worse comes to worse, I'll trailer it into a Dodge dealer, but that is my way last resort. Labor here is close to a $100 an hour now.

I would have to say, yes. You found the problem. You gotta find the other ends and repair them.

When you turn the key to the on position, does the pump run?

The engine cranks, but does not fire? correct?

CPS?
What is a CPS? Im guessing C_____ Positioning Sensor? Cam/Crank? Anyway, yes to answer the question, the engine does turn over but does not attempt to fire. Yes it does look like the wire did run over top of the bellhousing. I am going to attempt to find the other end and fix it tomorrow. Does anyone know where the other end plugs into? That would make my life a lot easier... so would a lift. I actually have a 94 Cherokee also, I attempted to trace the wire past the bell housing but could not see where it went. Thanks everyone for the replies, I really appreciate it. Please keep the advice coming.

crank position sensor
if it doesnt detect movement of the flywheel it shuts off the coil and injectors
the wires go to the sensor mounted on the bell housing
