Exclamation Computer Module Help

Allright guys,

My 99 is suffering some lot rot from a water leak. But thats not what this post is about, just the cause.

On startup my windshield wipers, radio, blower, turn signals, and rear wiper, defrost, and power outlets dont work.

Also the ABS, airbag, and sometimes the ebrake light are ON.

After a few minutes all the systems except the heater blower and the power outlets come on. once in every 500 starts or so everything will just be fine.

This leads me to think its a computer that on startup doesnt power all the ststems properly.

What can it be? The PCM?

Thanks!

Ummm...I would fix the leak first. Rust is an xj killer. You'll fix your parts now but that leak will just ruin everything again.

There is no point to spend money and hours to fix a leak on a vehicle I cannot drive. Fix the electronics now the jeep lives in a garage now. Then ill fix the leak sooo anyone have any ideas?

i would unplug ,check and replug all connectors involved and see if ANYTHING changes. sometime just exercizing them, pulling in and out will clean contacts. cost is time only.
if the computer works sometime i think its ok, could be wrong!

oh, i would open the pass kick panel and put a reflector light in there to warm up,,dry out all the stuff that gets soaked by the drainage thru there

You won't be able to drive it when rust falls off in chunks either. Just because it's in a garage doesn't mean it stops rusting. It's already started and just keeps on going. So spend money and hours fixing electronics, get caught in one rainstorm or snowstorm, new electronics fail again, repeat. Sounds solid haha.

But like nujeepguy said, open all the panels and let everything air out. Everything is probably moist. Contacts have probably failed. The passenger kick panel is a good place to start. Check fuses and relays as well.

The leak is slow. Lol a rainstorm doesnt flood it out.

I am in the process of drying her out. Lots of dehumidifers and electric heaters. I already took the dash apart.

But. Do you think its the Pcm? If its the PCM, Its unrelated to the water leak because the pcm is under the hood, not inside the jeep.

I know both need to be fixed, im not going to fix the leak untill I solve the electronics issue. One has to come before the other. And I choose electronics.

Sounds iike the Junction Block (JB) in the passenger foot well may have gotten wet and is ate up with corrosion.

Pull the cover off the JB and remove the JB to see if the back side is green. Also check the connectors for corrosion as you remove them.

The majority of the moisture in on the pass side. This is good advice. Ill check it out tomorrow!

Are there any other modules or computer type controllers in the dash area?

Interesting.

If it's a small leak, you should be able to run some water, find the leak, and patch it up in an hour and for like $10.

And you're saying it's wet on the passenger side dash area? I was just under there this summer and I can't remember if anything was there. I'll check my pics and see.

when it all clears up and youre running smooth!, look at my thread on carpet soaked. it WAS a small leak and i caught it b4 electrical trouble. others showed me how to slow the water with a dam but it still leaked thru the air vent. yours may be different/better??
this exact same water problem haunts the hummer 3 guys with electrical problems, usually connections. good that the jeep comp IS under the hood.
so good luck cleaning up the wet stuff, then attack the leak. my big problem was rotted floor on pass side

your choice , think it over. its hard to get at the vent all around but necessary.
check the special paint brush!
