Default Common 4.0 oil leak points

Sorry u know this has been covered a million times but my phone won't let me search.

I have a 96 jeep Cherokee sport with a 97+ engine swapped into it.

When i bought it, it had a pretty bad oil leak. At the time my solution was thicker oil. Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-40 This worked very well but it's starting to leak again and it's about time for an oil change.

I have a leak from my bell housing area so rear main seal for sure.
And another leak right around my oil filter. What could that be?
I plan on knocking out all leaks at once.

What gaskets or seals am I going to need?

valve cover, oil filter housing O-rings, oil pan gasket, rear main seal. if all of those aren't leaking they've either been replaced or it ain't a 4.0!

There are o rings on the oil filter adapter that tend to leak. I just went to Napa and bought a universal o ring kit, it had the all the ones I needed.

Rear main-15 bucks, oil pan gasket 30 bucks, o rings 10 bucks max. At least a day if you are a descent wrencher. Doing the oil pan gasket and rear main with the engine in are a pain, so be prepared.

Be sure to figure in an oil change when you are adding up your costs. Be sure to clean the oil pan out really well while its off.

I was going to seafoam right before doing everything. Get all my fluids and gaskets and then do the change. I'm going to clean the pan and pickup hose.
That way things are a bit more loose?

Sea foam is always good on these 4.0's. Be sure to put a little in to the vac. System.

Ive already seafoamed before. 3/4 gas tank and 1/4 into throttle body. MAN DID IT SMOKE.
I cleaned the throttle body after and changed the o2 sensor for good measure. I have another 1/3 of a can left I was saving for the crank case.

I'm really trying to maintain my xj haha.

The valve cover, distributor, oil filter adapter, and oil sender can ALL mimmick a rear main seal leak. Use your eyes and start at the top repairing the leaks. Don't jump on the RMS bandwagon just yet.
