K I love my cherokee but ive come across a 86 commcanche for 2500 canadian, its got 196000 km on it and has had work done on the top of the engine and the rear axle. Its a 2.5l 4speed Im wondering if anybody knows abit about commanches and could help me.
The 2.5 motor is ok with stock tires. If you plan on wheeling it, plan on swapping gears. For anything bigger then a 31 figure on 4.88's. The 4spd "should" have 3.55's/3.73. Expect low 20 fuel economy if stock and running right.

Thats a pretty high price even in Canadian dollars for a Comanche. Unless it is super clean and you are REALLY sold on it... Is it a 4wd? If not that price is even higher...
86 was the first year of Comanches, All are long boxes, the 2.5l is good little motor and will give you some decent fuel milage.

Ok they have dropped it down to 1900 Canadian for it, i think that's pretty reasonable but i think i can get them to go down to 1800 which i am willing to pay for it. Im wondering what engines are compatible with the transmission, or vice versa, or if the mounts are close enough i can drop the whole drive train out of a cherokee into it if i run into mechanicl problems.
i get 27 mpg mixed highway/city driving my 4 cyl 4 speed manche as hard as one can drive a 4 cyl manche. its a good little truck, but i paid $650 for mine with 110k miles. mines also a rust free 1990.
i think canadian is like 4 dollars to our 5 or something? (too lazy to look it up) if thats the case price is too high unless its in minty factory fresh condition

yes i think the price is a little high but up here cmanches are fairly rare ive only actually ever seen three in this province, the others were only 2wheel drive too so i may try to get them to lower the price.
just see if they will take like 1650 to 1700 for it. i know it is a little high in American. but as you say they are rare in Canada so they will be a little more there. you could always come down here. but what are the taxes and fees for bringing the car from here to there. it might be higher then just paying a little more there

yea ive seen a few around in people back yards that arent going anywhere but dont look like they run haha. I m wondering how similar the commanche specs are to the cherokee, like im wondering if i can hodge podge in one of our bullet proof 4.0 Ls out of another cherokee i have.
Basicaly you will need the harness from the firewall forward. Trans x-memebr t-case shifter linkage, as well as the frame mounts from a 4.0 equipped donor. It is better to do this if you can find a whole donor rig, cause undoubtedly.. I missed something you will need.
Keep waiting to see how much more they will drop the price. Or just offer them some crazy low price.... like $1000 and see what they say. Worse they can do is say no right?
