I have a 87 mj and instead of buying a entire soa lift for the rear i was gonna just swap the axle w/ a cherokee axle to make the leafs on top and lifting the back.
Question is will this be as easy any axle swap and will there be anything i need to buy ?(other than axle and maybe an add leaf)

it's called an overleaf or a leaf over conversion, there is a lot of info on the subject because it's popular with older wranglers, you could buy the perches online and just keep your old diff but when you weld them on youll need totake into consideration the angle of the driveshaft changing, i think itll be cheaper and safer if you keep the old diff and just put new perches

soa = spring over axle
i guess you can do it. but you would have to weld on the new perches and do something with the shock mounts.
i think the mj has both shocks on the back of the axle tube, where as the xj has one on each side...
edit: you can use any axle you want, since you have to reweld the perches and whatnot.
but to keep the 5 on 4.5, you would need either xj, zj, tj, yj, or mj. or ford 8.8 out of a ranger, etc.

The readon im trying to swap is mainly cause my rear pinion seal (where drive shaft meets diff) is leaking and i wanted an 8.25 any way.

A little off topic of the axle swap but would has anyone heard anything bad from bolt-on soa kits?
I found this 5" kit online http://www.rocky-road.com/comanche.html, therses limited mj lifts for the rear and just wanted an opinoin or two on this lift.
