Jeep cranks over at least 8-10 times before the engine fires. Fuel pump is new, as is the fuel pressure regulator. Newer ignition parts, starter, battery. Could it be the Crank Pos Sensor? or something else causing this? Someone told me something about some plastic disk that gets wore out and throws the timing off??. WTF could that be??? Jeep has 116k.

what is rotary button cause my jeep doesn't fire right away either. it used fire up after just bumpin it but now I let it crank over a few times stop then crank couple more & it starts right up. but I haven't changed starter yet new battery though & I do run it hard cause jeep likes make sure carbon doesn't build up blow it out the tail pipe, run it hard & if it breaks it won't surprise ya

CPS may be bad, the prolonged crank cycle may be due to the CPS not recognizing TDS? Its from left field but worth a try...

new parts don't always make them good... We've installed numerous new parts (over the course of a couple of years) that were defective... Keep it simple and start by turning the key to the on position once or twice for a couple of seconds to try and prime the fuel system and then try starting it... If it starts then it could be a fuel pressure problem... if not then start by checking for stored or pending codes in the computer and going from there...

you know its funny you should say that about cycling the key. my 2000 cherokee cold starts but its the fuel pump check valve and thats what i have to do so it doesn't crank over 10 times.. this jeep is a buddy of mine and i told him just that. it don't matter what he does-still starts hard. how do you check for stored codes? don't you have to have a check engine light on for the reader to even see whats going on if you will?

with a scanner you can have current codes, history codes and pending codes... usually the light will come on only on current codes but if the computer sees an new problem but did not trip the light yet it can be in pending...
