i have an '89 cherokee with 4.0L. what brand makes cai's for this jeep for a reasonable price?

On a more serious note (I have always wanted to do that) What Kind are you looking for? A snorkel, a Cowl type snorkel thing, or just one by your air box?

With what kind of set up? I have an 88, and am going the snorkel route. And obviously if you want a CAI, you want to replace the stock stuff. Jusy saying...

 

im not doing a snorkle. and i looked up CAIs and found Weapon-R intakes. they sound pretty good.

I've seen someone here on CF fabricate one himself, but the idea looks pretty good. Maybe this is what he's looking for. I'm no engineer, but I'd bet the air at the cowl is cooler than right next to the radiator.

Wow, I never thought about going that route with it, I was thinking of putting a CAI on my jeep and putting it down by the radiator but now I have this in mind..

 

Anyone knowledge on which ones work the best for the price? Ive seen a few around the same price a little over 200. But not all are created equal

 

You have to be careful with what some term a "cold air intake" I put one on my F-150 but in all actuality the stock system would bring cooler air than the aftermarket. Stock drew from outside the engine compartment through the fender, the aftermarket is completely under the hood. Just my two cents.

 

I really like those kits from summit all though it seems like i wouldnt call them "cold air intakes" seeing how they curve over the top over the engine with metal tubes. i would think any cold air sucked into the cowl would be nice and warm by the time it reached the intake. Seems like it might be a little better if it went right from the throttle body to the cowl IMO.

 

A bit of wisdom from my hold high school auto tech instructor: automotive companies pay good money to their engineers to develop an intake system. If they could be out-engineered by guys that sell their kits for a couple hundred dollars, why do they still have a job?

Now I'm not knocking on all cold air intakes or aftermarket companies. Many wheelers have good reason for wanting a snorkel, and air taken from farther away from the radiator and exhaust manifold would be colder. Just remember that throwing money at the vehicle doesn't always make it better.
