Coil pack 2001 xj
Coil packs for 01 stock xj.. cheap or expensive ? I'm struggling to decide. Is it worth 2x the price for name brand vs others. Help me decide!

I had the Autozone special on my 00 TJ and it ran for several years without a problem.
Unless you're going for a Mopar replacement, I'd just look at the reviews/ratings and pick the best reviewed one for the price you're looking to pay.

Yeah i found a few on Amazon that are cheaper vs omix ada and so on. Just didn't know if coil pack is made better or paying for brand name. I'm getting cheaper these days. I can buy new plugs and so on with savings.

I bought a Standard Motor Products coil pack from Rockauto ($73) 3 years ago and have had no problems with it. It's not unusual for the coil pack to short out internally. It's the first thing most mechanics suspect when 2 cylinders misfire at the same time. It has 3 coils that fire 2 plugs at the same time every revolution. Usually the first to short is coil #1 because it fires cylinders #1 and #6 thru a long connector. They are paired so each pair fire on compression and exhaust at the same time. This is called "waste spark" and it's designed to burn off whatever doesn't burn the first time.

If you know which 2 cylinders are misfiring, it's easy enough to find out if it's the coil pack. Coil #1 fires cylinders #1 and #6, Coil #2 fires cylinders #3 and #4, Coil #3 fires cylinders #5 and #2. I've been driving a 4.0 with a coil rail for 6 years and have already had to replace the SOB! It's a known failure point on the newer 4.0 engines. A scanner should be able to tell you which 2 are misfiring. If they are a matched pair, the answer is obvious. Pull the plugs and look at them!
