I feel like I've done this before....

No - no codes. No CEL/MIL.

Download the RENIX FI manual from Pirates of the Rubicon, get an FSM (eBay is a good source for these secondhand,) and get a decent DMM (not the five-dollar Harbour Freight job, but something a bit better. Spend $50-100 at the hardware store or at Sears,) and start reading.

The RENIX system is actually quite simple, and rewards people who can do their own thinking. I prefer it over OBD, in fact.

Sorry for the noob question, but this interests me too, since my old '90 has the renix system. Where do you DL that manual again? I googled pirates of the rubicon (since I have no idea what that is) and found nothing...

http://www.pirate4x4.com/

There's a "Tech Section" there (I think it's called the "BillAVista Tech Library," or something similar) with a pantload of useful .pdf files in it. Find it there.

Alternatively (I really need to check to make sure for myself...) I think someone upped the RENIX FI manual to my RENIXPower group - groups.yahoo.com/group/RENIXPower. Due to SPAMbots, I've had to fully moderate the group - but it also doesn't cost anything to sign up. Just make sure you let us (me and the other volunteer listmoms) know who you are when you want to join.
