1984-1986XJ w/GM 2.8L V6 was OBD-I.
1991-2001XJ w/AMC engine was OBD-I (1991-1995) or OBD-II (1996-2001.)
1984-1990XJ w/AMC gasoline engine was "pre-OBD," and therefore did not have a functional CEL/MIL. The ECU also does not "store" or "throw" DTCs.
Most troubleshooting on these vehicles (collectively known as "RENIX") can be done with a decent DMM and a little know-how.
(Again. Didn't I just go through this somewhere last week?)

What he say:
Ummmm you need be more clear with words of what yous need
Read FAQ, Do search
Renix is a beautifully simple, and yet frustrating system

The last AMC V8 was the 360ci, used until 1991 in the SJ.
The last AMC I6 was the 242ci, used until 2007 in the Jeep line (WJ/WK/TJ)
The last AMC I4 was the 150ci, used in the TJ until 2005 or so.
AMC ceased to exist as a company in 1988...

Technically speaking, production of AMC engines lasted longer than the company.

The last AMC I6 was the 242ci, used until 2007 in the Jeep line (WJ/WK/TJ)

Chrysler bought out AMC for Jeep in 88. Hence, AMC ceased to exist. The AMC designed 360 lasted until the end of the Grand Wagoneer, the 2.5 4 banger until it was repalced by the Chrysler 2.4 and the inline 6, basically still the old AMC design, was replaced by the minivan 3.8 V6...

Seriously - QFT. The designs were still in production by ChryCo, even after Lee Iacocca bought AMC/Jeep and dismantled AMC (since he only wanted Jeep anyhow,) very shortly thereafter.
There are still extant elements of AMC - just before Renault bought a good chunk of AMC in the early 1980's, AM General was spun off as the "military production," since the production of vehicles for the US Military by foreign-owned companies isn't allowed. Or at least, wasn't then.
(Why do you think the HMMWV/H1 uses AMC20 axles modified to IFS/IRS?)
