Says 98 in his signature line.
Honestly...........these days I'd just go buy a cheapie OBDII code reader. Everything has a computer in it any more. I struggled along without one for years and finally figured out computers in cars weren't going away. Just bit the proverbial bullet and bought one. You can catch em on sale for $40-$50 and they'll do what you need.
Mine has literally saved me thousands in shop bills. It won't tell you exactly where to look for a problem, but will put you in the general area. Between knowing the codes and these awesome message boards you can figure out 90% of what's wrong.
I've only had one thing that failed and I couldn't figure it out..........I couldn't retreive the codes and it turned out to be................ a bad computer...........go figure.
Not sure how they work it back east, but out here Autozone has readers and will hook em up and download the codes for free. Works great if the vehicle is driveable. I just like having my own.

NO, on low brake fluid. Some part stores and repair shops will read the codes for free, call around. Best solution is to get a scanner of your own, with 175k you need it. Engine light could be almost anything.
