Ok...I have a 2001 XJ with 169,000 on it and I have replaced the cracked rubber fittings on the Evap canister and replaced the gas cap and I am running out of ideas! The ones under the hood look good. Can I just delete the evap canister? Not sure what else to do to get this fixed...so the "Check Engine Light" will stay off.

Any help is greatly appreicated!

I was getting that code after having a viper 5901 car starter installed. It turned out that the purge solenoid and the DRL share a fuse. The car starter was tapped into the headlights and was drawing to many amps from there which was triggering the CEL.

You wouldn't happen to have a remote starter would you?

Thanks for the info...and no I don't have a remote starter. Some days it never comes on and some days it comes on right away after starting. I will keep trouble shooting!

 

search the code on google there a couple of right ups abpout filling up with xj running evap selinoid and vacuum leaks and gas cap being bad

 

What would happen if I just removed it all together and capped the lines? Anything bad? CEL light on? Just currious?
