I finally got my 93 jeep cherokee sport 4.0 running yesterday after it being down for two weeks and checked ignition coil, crankshaft sensor, and changed the computer, plugs, and wires. It ended up being the distributer.. Apparently it was the cam sensor inside of it that was keeping it from starting. Anyway it started and ran but it ran a little rough (would kinda sputter a little at times). Last night it shut off again when i went to run into town now this morning it wont start and its throwing a code 62. (Emr cannot store mileage in the eeprom). Would that keep it from starting though?

 

Check connections of harnesses to/from transmission is my first guess. When my 1996 was new I tried disconnecting the plug from the manual trans, it threw a code (pobably same one, not sure just saw engine light) in about 90 miles iirc. Plugged it back in and reset it later.

But it did not stop it from running.

Did you check the grounds going to dip stick tube?

That doesn't say anything about mileage. And I'm not even sure if the mileage on our XJs is even stored in the computer especially the older ones with the mechanical odometer.

 

You've quoted code 63, but he says he's getting code 62 which does list mileage
