Code 41 flashing

Code 41 flashing
Ok, so if my xj is cold and I start the engine, code 41 automatically pops up (alternator field coil open or shorted), however, If I let the ol jeep warm up good, shut it off, and clear the code, it will stay away until the next cold start up....any Ideas???

In my experience, a code 41 is normally an alternator problem.
You are most likely on the "front end" of an alternator issue.
When the alternator is code, it is most likely malfunctioning to a point that sets a code, but when it warms up, it works okay. Not inconceivable at all....
If this continues, (and of course if you have verified all electrical connections), I would consider replacing your alternator.
