Code 41 Alt Field Contrl Circuit ????

Has anyone else had a code 41? Alternator Field Control Circuit Open/Shorted? Sometimes when cold start it doesnt charge but run a few minutes then it does, The Alternator is new, the battery is good, I took the PCM out of mine and ran it in there and same problem......

Could be in the wiring or a connector.

When I swapped out the alternator in my '91, I had to repair part of the harness that connects to the alt. 2 of the connectors had been exposed and literally just fell apart when removed. Just a thought to check.

Edit: Another quick q... where did you get the replacement alt from? If AutoZone or advance, don't be surprised if that "new" alternator is going bad. I've had multiple alts from both places go bad maybe a couple months after install, everything done correctly.

A code 41 is one of those codes that consistently has the same root cause.

Code 41 is caused by the alternator itself 98.6719876542098% of the time.

Don't trust the bench testers at these parts stores. They provide nowhere near 100% fault coverage during their testing. Most test voltage and not current and that's what does the work.

Try another one.
