Clutch master cylinder

Clutch master cylinder
My clutch is randomly hard to push in. When it does it it looks like the rod isn't working like its supposed to. The whole master cylinder moves. Can I try to lube the rod or is there something I'm missing? 1994 4.0 5 speed.
