Default Clutch issue after install

I have a 93 cherokee which has the internal slave cylinder. I replaced the clutch because the old one was toast. Also installed new throw out bearing. Now that it is all back together the clutch won't disengage so it doesn't want to go into gear. It goes into reverse but grinds, when the clutch is in it seems to pulse very little like it wants to move, when i let the clutch out it will grab and move.

Is this some sort of a slave cylinder issue? The clutch pedal itself feels really weak and yes I bled it for a while to make sure. It just won't build pressure. I don't see any leaks and the clutch fluid seems to be staying at the same level.

Any input appreciated.

You need to bleed it properly. That or your master is bad too.

Man, that's harsh. I feel your pain. How did you bleed it?

I just bled it with one person opening the bleeder valve and the other pumping the clutch pedal. must have done that for a half hour and made sure to fill up the fluid before it went empty so no air would get in the line. The pedal never got stiff.

I just went out and pumped a bunch of times and was able to get it to go in gear and drove it around. I'm thinking new master cylinder because the pedal is still super weak.

So you did have help and did it right. Yea, if it's not leaking and won't get stiff/disengage I'd agree. Your sure you got the right parts. Just curious, how was it before? The master took a crap same time as the disk?

If you replace the mc, be sure to bench bleed it b4 installing.

By pumping with the breeder open, do you mean pumping? Or push the pedal down, open the breeder, close the breeder, let the pedal up? Fill the master every 2 or 3 pumps.

It was soft before but normal feeling. Now you can feel it has just about zero pressure at the very top of the pedal when you push on it and then very little at the bottom when its on the floor.

Andy yes that's what I meant, that is the method I used, open bleeder, close the bleeder

Patriot What does bench bleeding mean?

Bench bleeding is priming it before you install it. Can be done with a line that loops back to the res, then you pump it. I just put my finger on the outlet and pump it. Makes a mess. If you install it dry it may not prime and pump well enough to get things going and bleed right.

Still something sounds off. I wonder if you can disconnect the line, plug the outlet, and feel it fade that way. Maybe plug it with another nut/W crimped line. I believe that's a spendy master Cil. Not sure but I think years ago it was $165 for my 84.
