Hi all,

i recently bought a 1996 XJ 2 door with a 4.0 and a 5 speed manual trans.

I am trying to verify if a 1996 came with a clutch interlock switch.

I have seen info that says the 1997 XJ was the first year to come with one.
Is that true?

I can't find a switch under the dash. And it starts in gear without depressing the clutch.

I just checked rock auto and they don't show the clutch safety switch for a 1996.

But thy do have it listed for a 1997 XJ.

So I may have just answered my question.
Would still like confirmation from the jeep experts as I am just learnng about these XJ's

I am pretty sure nothing stopped me from accidentally energizing the starter while my 1996 XJ was in gear.

Im really suprised the 96 and earlier doesn't have a safety switch . I figured it was mandatory long before then.

yes, I looked for a switch, can't find one.

also looked for extra wiring connectors. Don't see any.
