Clutch Chudder Issue

My '96 has 187,000 miles on it with a clutch that is supposed to have about 8k miles on it. No leaks and it disengages fine - I get engagement about halfway up in pedal travel. Does OK when cold but it chudders even to the point of stalling the engine sometimes but not every time. Can be difficult to make a smooth takeoff especially on an incline. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting this?

Sounds like hot spots on the flywheel surface much the same as you see on brake rotors when you apply the brakes and feel the pulsing in the brake pedal. You can some times get a way with scuffing up the surface of the flywheel with crocus (sp?) cloth. While surface cutting brake rotors will repair the surface when installing new brake pads; cutting the surface of the flywheel is NOT recommended. When replacing the clutch; replacing the flywheel is recommended....
