Just sold my 98 xj and bought a 2000 xj.
my cluster lights went out as well as the the two bulbs were the ParkReverseNeutralDrive and transfer case indicator lights. my turn signals, high beam, and part time/fultime still work on cluster. no mph, volts, oil pressure, or rpms lights work! napa and autozone told me it could be my headlight switch, already replaced and still NADA...checked all my fuses also, none of which blown out. replaced a couple of bubls and that didnt fix anything.
anyone have anything similar happen to them?
thanks for feedback in advance

If you have battery voltage to the fuse box and B+ to the headlight switch supply side and battery voltage to the output side then it stands to reason there is a ground missing somewhere downstream or upstream eh??
Purchase a good quality volt meter and learn how to use it. There are lots of good books on basic automotive electricity at the public library. The money you save in throwing parts at your vehicle will pay for the meter in short order.

You know...that may have sounded a bit harsh, unintentional as it was. I would like to offer my assistance via the forum if required. I'm usually on here daily so when/if you opt to get hold of a meter, (digital is best) let me know and we'll trace your problem down. You'll also need a factory service manual pertaining to your year/model Jeep. The wiring diagrams in the Haynes and others are a bit too generic to be accurate.

Good advice on using a multimeter or learning too. I'm not familiar with your year but I've seen a few posts where they have cleaned the connection to the cluster and that has worked for them. My g-mas car did that and it ended up being the cluster.

Yea that would be very helpful.im sure i have a meter somewher at my parents shop.its just a matter of looking for it. I was looking around and found the owners manual along with original window sticker and other cool stuff...
I will get back to you.
-thanks
*p.s:no offense taken,it's common sense to do research.

MY 98' sport has the same problem turns out I'm blowing a fuse in the fuse box on the fender well in the engine bay. My problem is it keeps blowing everytime I try to replace it I'm thinking there is a short from this circuit to the internal fuse box but haven't found it.

So heres a tip,
1. Buy a generic 2 prong turn signal flasher.
2. Solder up two wires with spade terminals on one end and solder to the prongs of the flasher the other.
3. Yank the blown fuse and insert your wires from the flasher.
4. Yes the flasher will start clicking (self-resetting circuit breaker).
5. Start either under the hood or under the dash your choice, and start shaking wire harnesses.
6. When the flasher stops clicking there is your short.
7. Repair the wiring, yank the flasher, and replace with fuse.
