cluster inop

Default cluster inop

the jeep is a 99 and my cluster will stop working sometimes all guages don't work and other times just the speedo and tach don't work. Any ideas?

Pull the cluster and clean the contacts on both connectors

if it was a fuse it wouldn't work all the time right?

+1 it's a common problem on the '97+ XJs. Do a search for more information.

last time i wheeled with you my jeep went home with no guages

there is a wiring harness back there that needs to be cleaned up.

I believe theres a service buletin for this problem. I have a 99 and did the service myself. It included a new connector and involved cutting the old one off and reattaching the new one with solder and heatshrink tubes. it took me a hour or so. Would have been easier if the factory left some more room and wire.
I did this 4-5 years ago.
