Clunking Noise Needs to be Solved now!!!!
Okay i have 2000 Cherokee sport inline 6 all stock 231 transfer case automatic
The problem is i have bad clunking problem that sounds like its coming from under passenger floorboard maybe even more towards the front
the noise only occurs when i start from a stopped position and when i start from a stop and make a LEFT turn.
it only occurs at the first 45 degrees of the turn or the first 10 feet from starting position.
i have replaced the sway bar bushings tightened the track bar axle end no loose control arm bushings or any bushing up front that i have not yet replaced.
i need to find out hat it is or my dad is gonna make me sell it cause we cant figure it out.
i will be eternally grateful to the person who can tell me or help me the most just ask for any info you need

I guess just check all the common stuff. U-joints. Wheel bearings/hub. Brakes even.

My brake caliper was shot from the previous owner, it had play in it and everytime i stopped or let off the brake and hit the gas it made a clunk. Idk if this even comes close but worth a shot

It could be the drive shaft as it moves in and out of transfer case, the splines on the drive shaft become dry overtime and just need lubed up. The splines don't have any way of getting lubed, you can use grease or anti-seaze compound. My 2000 was doing the same thing and I did this and it went away. Theres a hose clamp like around the rubber boot, just cut it off and drop the drive shaft and I just used a heavy duty zip tye on the boot because you will have to do it again later down the road. Hope this helps.

Get under it with a rubber mallet and start beating on everything, see what moves that isn't supposed too. Then with you underneath have someone bounce all four corners and the front & rear like checking for worn shocks. See if you can use a pry bar and lift the transmission or motor off the mounts, etc, etc. Last but certainly not least you already lubed the slip joint for the rear driveshaft, right?
