Default CLR heater core treatment

is this a bad idea? i saw a youtube video of a guy doing this and it worked well for him. i searched around on here and could not find enough feedback for me to feel comfortable with doing this. right now my heat is non existent on my 99 xj. it does swap between the different vents though so i do not believe it is a vacuum problem.

So your saying the heater hoses are drastically different temperatures @ the firewall? This would indicate a clogged heater core as no coolant could pass. At best the CLR is a stop gap measure, because whatever clogged the heater core will kill the whole system.

guess i should have specified that this summer my radiator had a leak and i used a good bit of stop leak before yanking out the radiator and flushing the whole system with regular water, oh and installed a new water pump as well . .my thinking is that the stop leak got in the heater core and stopped some flow lol. . .and no i havent grabbed the hoses. . havent thought of it while out driving to and fro. will do that in the morning though

hey bob i heard that this works. we see allot of clogged cores at work we normally use a steam cleaner. but i was just talking to another tech from down the street and he said they use it to clean out the rusty crap that builds up in the cooling systems. it might not dissolve the colg completly but i may loosen it so you can run the hose through it.
