clicking sound when i hit gas..

Default clicking sound when i hit gas..

so have a 1990 cherokee that ckicks when i hit gas it sounds like something under valvue cover. some say it could be in need of oil others that fuel injectors are dirty got fuel injector cleaner but still clicking. also a mechanic at big o said it was cause exast manifold was cracked.. however what do all you jeep gurus think? again anyhelp would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks

A cracked exhaust will make a lot of noise, fix that first.

I just posted a similar thread last night titled "another noise riddle from the sphinx"... my sound isn't that loud, and only happens when it is in drive as opposed to sitting in park and revving the engine....

If you have a cracked header, it will make a ticking sound when you hit the gas.

cracked manifold would still click revving the engine in park right?

the old amc's are prone to wearing out lifters. this is not a serious problem mine has had its tick since 294000 and I am at 421000 now. try using a heavier oil mix and if it goes away it 's a lifter.
