Default Clickin when in 4WD?

I get a high pitched metal on metal clicking when im not 4wd. Its not all the time, very random. Its does happen alot more when im turning though. I was thinking maybe the U-joint, but everything seems tight, there no play in the joint.

I am getting this also and was told that my wheel bearings need replacing. Not sure if this is the same issue you are having also.

U joint, wheel joint, same deal. That could be issue. How did you check wheel joint? W/ wheel off ground? Other things could be drive shaft u joints, track bar bushings, tre's...

Its not the wheel bearing, cuz it would do it all the time then nut just in 4WD right? Same for the Track bar and TRE I would think.

I check them U-joints last week when i rotated the tires, the driveshaft too. Nothing seems loose.

u-joints could be seizing up. don't need to have play in them to be shot.

wheel bearings are the same way, but most of the time they will get loose.
jack the wheel up and spin it, you should hear crunching from the bearing.

my guess is the u-joints.

Gotcha, I had a wheel bearing go but had ZERO playin, it was just slightly harder to turn. Wasnt sure if U-joints did the same. Ive only heard the noise with 4wd engaged so it cant be a wheel bearing. Guess in learning to change u-joints soon.

Sounds like you're all set. Mine makes a "metal on metal clicking", when I'm turning in 4WD, and there is no question it's my front U-Joints
