Looking to undercoat the bottom of my unibody, but its got alot of mud and dirt under it, how can i clean it before i undercoat it? Just lay down on the ground with a hose? Or what lol

Thats what i do, or hook up a sprinkler to the hose and slowly drag it front to back back to front.

When I go "mudden", I usually stop at a car wash, and clean as best as possible.

A pressure washer is a big help also, even a cheap one.

I just didnt know if i should be worried about knocking anything loose under there. I have 2 soft spots and need to go ahead and address this issiue before they get any worse. I was thinking just using canned undercoating from my local advance autoparts

I've taken a set of ramps to the car wash too. Don't think the car wash guy likes it. They put up signs saying no heavy mud please.

Years ago I went spashing thru mud puddles in a '89 Mustang GT.I went to the car wash & went thru the automatic wash.I got out to see how clean it was & it was still nasty.I told the attendant I was not satisfied with the results & he said "what did you expect,it was filthy when you brought it in".

I never went back,later-it closed & got bull dozed.

I got lucky in the mud holes,I hear lifted trucks got stuck in them.

Luck or speed.

Once you have a clean undercarriage,I've heard of people spraying Pam on it to keep mud off.When you get home spay with a garden hose & the remaining mud falls off.
No,I haven't tried it.YET.

Heavy mud will clog their drains. That's why the signs are up.. It cost them a good bit to unclog em

A pressure washer is a fantastic tool for getting mud and grime off. You can usually pick one up at harbor freight or somewhere for a decent price. They only need to be like 1500 psi, not the big 3000 psi expensive ones.

Before you are going to undercoat, what do you mean by "soft spots". Undercoating over heavily rusted that are not structurally sound is never a good idea. If its bad, cut it out and replace it.

If you really want some good stuff to coat, try Rust Bullet. I took the bed off my Ford Ranger last year and cleaned it, sanded and scuffed it REAL GOOD, (prep is the key) and coated it. Still looks as good as when I did it. Not one sign of anything peeling.
