Hey guys, planning on cleaning under the hood tomorrow. Just wanted to see what your preferred method is?

With recent jeeps I have just taken them to a self serve car wash, spraying the engine with degreaser, letting it soak in, covering the distributer with a bag so it doesn't get wet, and then pressure wash it with their stuff.

Sound good? Or does anyone do it differently?

Let the engine fully cool before you soak it. Cover the dizzy fully. Perhaps the fuse box as well.

Here is what I did.

1.Disconnect the (-) terminal and cover the intake and fuse box and distributor with towels or bag
2. Spray the whole engine bay down down with a pressure washer.
3. Spray some Purple power or equivalent degreaser on everything and let sit about 10 min.
4. Wash off with pressure washer.
5. Spray a can of this amazing stuff CD2 engine cleaner (could only find it at checkers) and let sit with the engine running for about 10-20 min-dont wash off. My buddy who details cars recommended this to me. I have tried other stuff and it never has results like this.

Still looks this good a few months later.

I just use the local car wash when cleaning the engine compartment.

Generally, I stay away from big time all-over cleaning using a power washer because of potential problems with water intrusion.

But if you are going to do it, proceed with CAUTION.

The distributor AND the throttle position are but two very suspect components that hate water. Get water in there and you're not leaving that car wash on your own power!

power washer seems too extreme for me...everytime i've washed an engine bay a regular hose worked fine. I usually hose it down, spray some engine degreaser in there...scrub with some soft bristle brushes to get in all the nooks and crannies then hose down and spray with some type of protectant.

Its really nice to see your engine nice and clean...

Before and after shots.

After everything had dried up I was able to see the spots that I had missed, so next time I should e able to get everything.

Also I had found that cd2 product at autozone.
