Default Chugging down the road...

So I took my 96 Cherokee in the mud and leaving it would barely go in 2wd and 4wd. While it was fully stopped it would idle normally as well as in nuetral. It sounded like the intake was sucking as hard as it could. It would shut off and start up normally but it had trouble driving down the road unless I put the pedal down to the floor. Not sure what I did, thought I disconnected a vacuum line but after a few minutes of driving it out of overdrive it quit and started running and accelerating fine. I was curious if anyone could point me in the right direction as to why it did what it did.

Have you checked to see if there's water in the air box? That would definitely cause a stumble.

def a vacuum leak get some carb cleaner and start sprayin it around your vaccum lines while its running when you hit it with that stuff the leak will suck it in and it wont do any harm to your vac system... youll see it when spray it

There is no air box as I have an aftermarket intake filter and that was dry, that was my first thing I checked.

Thats what I first supected but after it cleared up it told me that wasn't what happened. I'm assuming something got wet and caused it, I'm just looking for the cause so I could correct the issue. No water in the oil either.

i think that would cause a lil more than a stumble... water doesnt compress it would just blow a rod

If it's just a little getting sucked in, it will run pretty crappily. My buddy soaked his air filter in his Exploder and he couldn't figure out why it was running so bad. I popped off the airbox cover, threw out the wet filter and it ran fine after that.

Pull your distributor cap for a look-see.

X2 on the distributor cap. Took mine to the car wash and used some engine degreaser, got some water in the cap, ran like ***. but after a while it cleared up.

When I stomped on the gas it would go but when I just drove it like normal is when it was acting like it was bogging down

I'm not questioning you guys directly, I'm just trying to get as much information on this as possible so that I can draw an educated conclusion.
