Default Chrysler 8.25 diff plug fell out...

So yeah, check this out. I went out this morning to start the Jeep before work and thought I would go check the mail. On my way back up the driveway, I noticed a shinny spot on my diff. Well turns out, the plug is gone and there was a little fluid trail on the ice. I stuck my pinkie in there and quickly brought out oil so the rear end is fine but that's odd that its just gone; no where to be found. The only thing I can think of is either the 20* weather has shrunk my old plug enough that it just fell out or possible a piece of ice was on it and fell off with the plug attached. Either way, it was due for a replacement but I'm just glad I noticed it.

So keep an eye on those I guess; hopefully someone didn't just ****** it out of there.

Oh BTW apparently that's a dealer part, AutoZone didn't carry it. Jeep wants $7 for a replacement.

Post the part number if you can. Which rear end do you have?

My AX-15 drain plug was hand tight when I changed the fluid the other day. Not sure what was going on but it could have easily rattled out.

It's the factory 8.25. Yeah luckily you probably wouldn't loose all your fluid but consider this for the AX-15. When I bought my 5 speed XJ, I changed the fluid that the previous owner had in there and less that a quart came out. I lucked out b/c it hasn't shown any signs so I'm sure you wouldn't loose your tranny.

Thanks man I appreciate the offer but the dealership is right down the road and I might as well put a fresh new one in there. Ya know what, I should use this as an excuse to get a stronger cover and with a threaded plug, lol.

Want to but haven't yet, cut down a 2" black iron pipe coupling weld it to the cover and put a brass pipe plug in it.

***** I should have checked NAPA.... I like the coupling idea; that'd work.

For future reference the p/n is as follows

52070428-AA PLUG DIFF 2011004

$7.63 after taxes
