I wheeled with a guy that has a 27 spline 8.25 and an ARB. He ended up breaking the DS shaft on High Dive, on the Behind the Rocks trail in Moab, but he had already done Prichert Canyon that day so it wasn't like it didn't take a real beating before it broke.
That said, I would go ahead and put some 29 spline shafts in before I locked it.

I have a 27 spline c8.25 with a lockright. I bought it off a guy who was running 35's
I though the carrier opening was different between 27 and 29 spline so you had to swap carriers too. The 29 spline shaft is bigger and doesnt fit in a 27 carrier, thats what my quick research brought up
