Exclamation Cherokee wont start sometimes

hey guys and gals. New to the threads. Ran into a couple of problems. with my 96. sometimes my jeep wont start, i mean no crank no clicking nothing, but when i put it in neutral and coast back or go forward she will fire up no problem. Im kinda pissed about it. and let me mind you i have new battery, alt, starter ..pretty much everything on my jeep is new-Cuz thats just how much i love my xj!! and minor problem is that my reverse lights dont work..bulb are good and fuse is good., maybe a bad connector off the transfer case?
help please.

Neutral safety switch. Search on here for how to remove and clean it. That is absolutely your issue, I'm 100% sure of it.

Welcome to the forum. And welcome to having what sounds like a typical XJ issue..

The reverse lights missing, the intermittent no start without even cranking/clicking...I agree that the NSS is very suspect. Worth looking into cleaning it first before replacing. Do a search (like cleaning neutral safety switch), and you will find several threads, some with nice pics. Getting the NSS of the shaft is the "piece de resistance" , so to speak.

Oh, and don't get all pissed about it, as you said. There will be plenty more opportunities to do that, when you come across more complicated problems to be solved
