Cherokee transfer case interchange
First, I did search google for several days. I'm starting this thread due to the total lack of agreement on what fits.
I have a 95 cherokee sport. My TC tag states it is a 5209 8487 model number 231J. In the back of my truck, I have a 98 model year TC with a tag number of 5209 9212.
Some say these will fit, some says only 94-95 cases can be used in 95's, etc. Anyone confirm nor deny my swap before I look to find another one? I'd like to use the one I have if possible.

itll fit, all 231s and 242s from 91+ xj will fit 91-01 xj. You may have to swap the tail housing from yours to the one your swapping in im not sure, because at some point they changed them to have a seal in them so when u pulled the rear ds fluid didnt leak everywhere. But all other functions of the cases are identical.

Nope, not an issue since the t case replaces the whole tail housing. You will want to use the speedometer out of the 98 t case though.
Whats wrong with the 98 case? Maybe you should make a doubler out of it.

Did you get yours installed yet ole blue? We ended up adding a second hole in the lever for adjustment before we shipped them out to everyone. You are the only one that doesnt have the second hole. Let me know if you need us to add that for ya.
