Default Cherokee Trans/T-case Help

Hey, I am a NEWB to the site. Kinda NEWB to Cherokees. Here is my thing. I am sure the question has been answered before but I'm asking again with my details. I have a 88 Comanche. The body is DOA. Motor, good, t-case NP231J, Trans Peugot ba10 or however you spell it. I have just picked up a almost MINT 89 XJ. No motor, trans, t-case. I know the motor will pop right in. Renix years. The cherokee is set up for an auto. I am wanting to do away with the 5 speed and wanting a AW4. I have a AW4 out of a 91. I also know that it is a 23 spline and my T-case is a 21 spline. 1st of all, Will this trans work, keep in mind i will be swapping t-case as well? I also can get a 231 from a 2000 for almost nothing. (friend giving it to me for $50) I dont know anything about the computers. Is there wiring conflicts between these years? If it is much trouble, Would it be in my best intreset to find a aw4 from a 90 back? What is my easiest thing to do? Thanks for any and all help.

The 23 spline transmission will be fine, you may have to convert it to mechanical speedometer cable but thats a bolt in. I dont remember what year the XJ went to electrical speedo.

You have two options with the transfer. Convert the 21 spline to 23 with an input gear swap or swap out the entire transfer.

What front axle do you have? CAD or non? The CAD has a vacuum operated disconnect on the passenger side tube.

Youwill need the double TPS out of a RENIX 4.0 to for the AW-4, since your engine was mated to a manual transmission and has only the single TPS.
You will have to re-wire the connector because the chrysler era is different.
Other than that the two control units work INDEPENDENTLY.
If your AW-4 is a 91, should have 21 splines output, if it's a 23 prolly later than '95.
For the TC follow OverlandXJs instructions.

No problems on getting the double TPS. I can get a new one from a parts store for a 89 i am sure. Next question is about the re-wire? Can you explain that a bit more? Is it cutting off a wire connector (plug) and wiring on a different 1?

What ge means by rewire is cut the plug off and strip the wire back, then take butt connectors and crimp them on. Attach your new tps to the end of that and there you are. Make sure your butt connectors are heat shrink and electrical tape them up well also after your done.

Yes, if the AW-4 you have is a post '91 it will have the Chrysler style connectors.
Basically what you need is a 1-5 volt signal from the TPS.
On the Renix models the computer ECU works with an inverted 5-1 volt signal and the TCU with a common 1-5 volt signal. That's why renix have the double TPS.
The Chrysler computer PCM works with a 1-5 volt signal like the TCU, so they just have one TPS with a splitted output wire, one end to the PCM and the other end to the TCU.

The TPS (TCU serving) wires are three: Ground, +5 volt and 1-5 output.
What you want to do is rewire the connector attached to the tranny harness with the Renix connector, to plug in the renix dual TPS.

Should be plug and play as long as the splines are the same and connectors will plug up.

you could use a 231 from a 93 it doesn't have the vacuum like the renix models but i'm not sure about the output shaft splines in the tcase but I've rebuilt mine so if you have to change it it's not that complicated (atleast it waasn't for me lol) but I have a link for a detailed tear down and reinstall of a 231 tcase if you need it just pm me
