it'll fit - it's held up by the trim on either side. As for the middle support - you can go without (not recommended) or rip one out of a pre 96 XJ - they are just glued to the roof steel. Wires should be available in the panel behind the spare tire if not already run to the roof.

so are you saying that it would be better to just get the whole headliner out of a newer cherokee? or just get a sound bar out of an older one?
what is a reasonable price to pay for a sound bar that has been redone with grills and no speakers?

soundbar out of an older one. I wouldn't pay more than $20 if you pull it yourself

alright, sounds good. Ill probably end up redoing my headliner at the same time and wrapping the sound bar in the same material....should be a good weekend project

If looks are a factor just go pull the entire headliner out of a newer one.. call the local JYs and see if they have a 96+ classic with the headliner intact. If so then the headliner will have the 2 6.5s in the rear. You can reline it in whatever color or pattern headlining you want and slide it right in.

Yeah you can have a console up top with the soundbar. I would go with what dukie564 said, get one from an older one. I wouldnt worry with grills, most aftermarket speakers come with their own grills and i would just use those.

I got a complete soundbar for 10 bucks, with grills, my only question now is what size speakers fit in the soundbar? it seems like the 6.5s are too big..

6.5" fit with a tiny bit of trimming. I did it.

hm okay....and i guess I was also wondering how you would mount it in a newer cherokee...I dont think there is a stud to hold it up..I was thinking about just riveting it to the head liner i dont know though

97+ soundbars are under the headliner and made into it. So there's nothing to hold up one from a older one unless you we're to rivet it yourself.

yeah I know that they are molded on the newer ones but I figued this would be a hell of alot cheaper than doing the whole headliner...I may just attach it to the head liner

97+ are covered over but they are two separate pieces. held up the same as 84-96. 97+ will go in the same way as 84-96 by the upper panel. very easy to do

Is there any DIY threads out there that you know of? I looked but without success..or is it as simple as cutting the headliner and putting a stud through the brace and mounting up?
