Hello fellas, how can I disassemble the dash board? I think there is bad grounding, because temperature gauge is jumping like crazy, when rpms are higher, and I think, vibrations has no influence with it. In case of backfiring, I'm waiting for new fuel filter, I ordered it on sunday, today was easter, so I think it will come at thursday. I will let you know, what happened after replacement of filter. But now I'm preparing for replacement of fuel pump, if fuel filter wouldn't help. I will remove fuel tank, I can clean it, when I will working on fuel system. How to remove fuel pump? There is system with fuel pump inside tank, on arm of fuel pipe, mounted on front side of tank, not on the top. Than I will change O2 sensor, than injector. Has anyone any diagram, where is injector and how to remove it? I have so many questions.. :-D

Hi guys, I need to know, where is a resistor to control fuel pump speed after engine start? There should be any resistor to reduce pump speed, but I don't know where and how it looks like.

This evil thing with the screw right in the middle at the top:



Fuel pump ballast resistor. Just jump the two wires together

I have some news. I was searching for the ballast resistor and.... there is no thing like on your photo, do you have any idea, where else this evil thing can be hidden? This is my right side of an engine bay:

I saw left side also, but there is nothing also. I will see again. Maybe on my car is no ballast resistor, or maybe it is hidden somwhere. Thanks.

Hi all, I want to tell you, that my Jeep is OK now. It was really fuel pump. I ordered new one (AIRTEX E7001 - nothing else was here to buy, is it good, or not?) installed and car now runs very good. I have another question. I need adjust valves, is here any procedure how to do? Clearances etc... ?

Great news! You'd better order another fuel pump though, Airtex is known for leaving people stranded. All of the real mechanics here strongly reccomend against them (if you do a search you'll start to see why)

Nope no valve adjustment to be done.

Thanks I will try some search about Airtex here. So on 4 cyl. 2,5L from 1987 are hydro lifters? The pump costs about 100USD (Airtex). What will you recommend me? Problem was, that I found here only one pump and it was Airtex, no other manufacturer and only one piece in stock. Maybe someone be willing to send me the pump from the United States. But it is music of the future.

Just to throw this in here...2.5's didn't have a ballast resistor. I know my 87 doesn't, and I know a buddys 95 YJ doesn't have one either. And I'm pretty sure 87-88 4.0's didn't have it either, I know 87 didn't, I know 89 did, not 100% on the 88's.
Just a little Renix knowledge

Jelen, glad you got it running. The 2.5 really is a great engine, I love mine, currently at 245,000 miles and still the most reliable thing I've ever owned (also the highest mileage vehicle I've ever owned).
I do agree with the comments on Airtex fuel pumps, the two my roommate has had didn't last, I recommend Bosch if you can get one there. Havent had any problems out of my Bosch pump.

kirknd4spd: Thank you, I must solve a few problems, like knocking in engine, it sounds like piston slap, but piston slap is knocking on cold engine, this runs great cold, but when it is warm, little knocking is here. So I was curious, what is in this engine, hydrolifters, or adjusting screws. I think it is any valve on head. Your mileage is pretty cool! I must check mine mileage, but I think it isn't so much above 100 000. I had old Mercedes 123 with 406 000 miles. But it was old immortal diesel. :-D

By the way, do you have any part number of bosch pump?

The lifters in the 2.5l are hydraulic, you just torque the rocker arm nuts down to 19 foot/pounds torque and you are good to go.(not sure what the N/m conversion is).

I just bought a 1985 with 2.5l and 3sp auto, drove it the first time yesterday after fixing it. Seems like a great little truck, I hope you have great luck with yours too.

I like my Jeep, this is 4spd, I would like manual, because Im not very familiar with automatic, but it's still very good. It's something new for me. It is a lot of fun with this car. By the way, thanks for explanation of valves. I will borrow torque tool from my job, I'm familiar with lb/in and lb/ft, I'm working on Boeing aircrafts.

Hello, I wanna change oil in engine, transmission (automatic) and in the diffs. What oil should I use? I found here for my transmission is good Dexron III, but not sure about engine oil. 10W40 or 15W40?
