Really? My apologies. I thought the AX-5 to AX-15 was a straight swap

The radio will be an AMC/Jeep unit.

The AMC cars from the same era would have been the same.

The Renaults don't count.

1987 is Renault or ACM? Is possible to install 4.0 with transmission to this car? Can transmission fits on next unit behind 2.5 transmission? Car has AW4.

My advice would be to leave your Jeep drivetrain as it is.

If you really want something different, sell it and buy what you want.

Yeah, he wants an original radio to keep it all original as sold new.

BUT he wants to change the whole drivetrain?

No, no, you don't understand me :-) I want keep my car in original condition, but many people told me, that spare parts for my car will be nightmare to find, because 2,5L autmatic is very rare here. I'm asking only if main parts, like engine, transmission and other, are interchangable with 4.0 jeep, that is very common here. I'm afraid, when something goes wrong with engine, or transmission, if I can put inside parts from 4.0... I saw only one 2.5L Cherokee ever, and I bought it... :-D

Don't worry about what other people may say. They can't predict the future. They may not even know what they are talking about. Since you have the only one, they don't have direct experience with any future problems that may or not occur.

Drive it and enjoy it. Cross bridges as you come to them.

The 2.5 is basically a 4.0 with the center two cylinders removed. Quite a few internal parts, external parts and sensors are common between the two. You should be able to find parts OK.
Swapping a 4.0 in place of the 2.5 is another matter, nothing mates up. It's a considerable, but not impossible project.
I'm pretty sure in 87 it was an AW4 behind the engine if you have the auto, but it isn't directly interchangeable with the 4.0 AW4. Different bolt pattern on the bellhousing. Yours has the GM 60 degree 'v6' pattern. The internals, except for the torque converter i believe are entirely the same though, so again- parts should be reasonably easy to find.

Yes, I have AW4. Maybe parts should be easy to find in United States. But here I don't think so. Maybe if someone be willing to send me some parts by post, but it could be expensive too. I'm praying for automatic and engine. Everything else is relatively easy to find.
