Default Cherokee Newbie. Defroster & Vent Issue

Hello,
Due to high recommendations, I am an excited new owner of a 93 Jeep Cherokee 2Dr. I can see why people love this SUV.
Upon future examination of this vehicle, I noticed a few problems that I need to fix. I have done some research on this website but it did not answer the questions to my full satisfaction. Hopefully, starting a new thread can isolate and better define the solution.

Issue #1: Currently, there is no defroster or wiper in my rear window. After removing the front console, I noticed that there are wire harness plugs for the defroster and wiper. Is it possible for me to remove my rear hatch and swap it with one that has the defroster and wiper?

Issue #2: Currently, only the windshield vents are blowing. From what I've read, it is stuck due to the vacuum line or reservoir is leaking. Could the vent flap motor be defective and needs replacement? How can I diagnose this problem?

Your reply is greatly appreciated. This is my first 4WD and I am excited to get in out of my dirt property!!! HAHA

#1: yes you can swap in the defroster hatch and all the wiring should be there ready to hook up. just go to the junkyard and pick up the switch panel for it and it should plug in as well.
#2 idk how you would fix that. maybe the vacuum ball isnt holding vacuum anymore????

#1 - Thanks. I was hoping that was the answer. Ontu the junkyard to buy the whole rear hatch. Sweet!

#2 - Yeah...I still can't figure this out. I will keep researching...

I had the vents problem with my 86 cherokee. I found a vacuum line by the firewall that had been disconnected, connected it and problem solved

The vent problem.. The vacuum ball is behind the front bumper on the passenger side. Follow the Plastic(crappy) tubes look for a break in one. The plastic gets old and brittle and cracks or breaks. Or possibly disconnects. You can also just plug the vacuum lines from the ball and you will have air form all the vents again. Hope this helps!

Wow. Thanks for that info. I thought the vacuum lines and ball were in the dashboard or something. That would have cause me many f* bombs not knowing prior.

Now, I've read that most people just plug the hose, is there any harm not using the vacuum ball?
