Well, it has actually yet to be installed, if you read the post first addressing it, you can see what it is slated to go into. The motor itself is a torque monster, and so far it has had some minor teething issues with running on modd'ed RENIX electronics, but it has been mostly simple stuff. The biggest issue other than getting injectors that co-operate with the motor has been boost related things. I feel that, based on the durability of the old 258 and the RENIX era 4.0 block, that this should be a reliable build, just a little bit tune intensive because of the senistivity of a boosted and tweaked motor. With summer here, I can hopefully catch cooling issues BEFORE they get to be an issue.

What kind of turbo are you running?
How much boost?

I am using Turbonetics components. The boost level, it is locked down at 16psi, with a re-circulating blow-off to maintain manifold pressure. I will see about raising the boost a little after the motor has had some run time.
It looks like the #6 rod wanted to see daylight bad. I bet is was still able to run, though. You do know that 0.060" is about the max O/B on a 4.0 block? You can concievaby go over, but you most likely end up getting it sleeved after that.

I understand .060" is max but only if you have the right block casting and even then it's questionable
That's a ton of boost...I think 14psi = 100% increase , gotta question reliability of 16psi on a .060" motor

Well, as has been stated on the wall thickness of the block, you can find them that will take more O/B, but I was happy to find what is considered a "Mexican" block, that actually has the wall thickness to handle up an 0.080" O/B. As for the reliability, well, I still still feel that the track record of the 4.0 based motor is good enough to hold up, but time will tell.....(I am hoping that this thing DOES NOT ever go "tick,tick,tick...BOOM", at least until I either sell it [not likely] or scare myself enough to quit driving it {yeah, right}).
As with any group of people you will find differing opinions. I think quite highly of K&N and have run their filters on just about everything I have owned for thirty some years. I think they do very well if properly maintained. So you have two opinions and you can still go another way if you like.

I re-oil mine about once a month when it's dusty here. When we were in Georgia It was only required about every three months, thus the maintenance clause in my statement.

Hey blue, i also think highly of K&N, just not in off-roading. I used their cone filter on my TJ during the first year (hot and dry summer) and my intake was all dusty from the filter to the TB. The K&N allows plenty of airflow but can't filter out the dust enough. From then on i used purolator stock drop-in filters with a snorkel setup. Always clean, always dry.

i've definitely always heard that k&n was basically one of the best air filters you could buy, but the only vehicles i've ever really seen them on are cars that never see dirt so i was definitely wondering how well they would do in offroad conditions. thanks for the info!

well really no matter what, if you offroad there's gonna be dirt lol. i guess it would really just be a matter of me checking my engine more often, which i'm paranoid about now!

That was mine when i bought the jeep last year. NEVER been changed.

agh, that's crazy! naww... im just paranoid because last time we washed my jeep (well, the only time we've ever washed it) i popped the hood and discovered i had a major coolant leak and i was low on oil. so now whenever i get the chance i check it to make sure it will at least run.
