cherokee diesel conversion question
I have a 2.1 litre turbo diesel renault engine which came out of an 84 cherokee, I would like to put the engine in as new a cherokee as I can. does anyone know which five speed manual transmissions would bolt up to that diesel engine. I understand the diesel cherokee came with an AX 5 originally. thanks people.

I'm not sure of the trannys that will mount up to it but I sure hope you are doing this for the fuel mileage and not for any kind of performance. the stock specs on the 2.1 are only 85HP and 132lb/ft. A 2.5L TBI four banger makes more HP and torque in stock form (117hp/135tq). Though if you were doing this for a biodeisel conversion or something I would totally understand...

Are you planning to install this in a computer controlled Cherokee? It may be more of an electronic nightmare than it is worth.

the gas motors need way more rpm to get the torque rating
the diesel has almost full power just off idle
