Dude were telling you you probably have a Cracked head, when you get it apart to replace the head gasket you had better take the head into a shop and have is checked for cracks. Yes change the oil

My jeep ran fine just burned water, id fill up my reservoir every 3 or 4 days. it's all downhill from there
I didnt do the HG Job myself I got it done at a shop and yes they did take the head to one of those places wwhere they polish them , I am sorry I am new to all this , the jeep is not heating up at all , I was just panicking because it is missing water at the reservoir, I got the HG job done about 4 or 5 days ago , do I do the oil change now ? thanks for the advice

welllll you need to figure out where the coolant is going first of all, cracked bottle? leaking heater core? leaking hose? cracked head?
you mention WATER do you mean coolant or are you running water? water isnt what you want to use it will create problems, also no thermostat? why, its there for several reasons, ill let you do the googleing
if a "shop" you paid put this engine back togeather using water instead of coolant, and no ther, mostat id be looking for another shop

when I got it the thermostat was already missing , and yea it does have coolant in the radiator just fill up the reservoir with water , when the HG job was done the heads were polished hope the water is not going in the oil again
that would be very bad , I will do the oil change tomorrow and keep an eye on the reservoir
ill google about the thermostat thanks for the advice

I wouldn't think they'd do all that work and not replace your thermostat. I'd assume that it is installed. It's mounted on the front of motor right above the water pump.
You need to figure out what is causing the loss of coolant. Take your jeep to auto zone. Rent a coolant pressure test kit and attach it to the radiator where the cap is. Pump it up to 16 psi and watch it. If your system holds 16 psi for 4-5 minutes, your good. If it fails, keep pumping it to 16 psi and looking for coolant leaking from somewhere.
Good luck.

once you figure out whats going on you will need to renew all youre coolant as you are adding tap water containing minerals that can harden and clog passages as well as the fact that the more water you add decreases the boiling point of the coolantOriginally Posted by mariop910

The Jeep will not run hot if it does not have a thermostat. Put a new 195 thermostat and report back. I hate to tell you but all your symptoms suggest a cracked head. And its a shame having to go through all that work and expense to get a new head. Every mile you drive the Jeep in this condition is shaving hundreds of miles from the life off your new engine.

mine kept draining the res and i had heard about the 0331 head problem but just blew it off wrong move on my part just get dumping water in it for two months then all *** broke loose three pistons dropped in the oil pan bent all 12 rods broke 3 valves and many more things took it apart and right between the 3 and 4 cylinder coolant passages it was cracked cause of all my problems i love my xj but i hate the year just me yes pressure test it but i bet you wont find the leak because its internal not the gasket or hose i would put money on the head watch for white smoke coming out the tail pipe with a sweet smell and i would not drive it with the problem just from seeing from what happened to me a new motor is not cheap
very sad so say , I was going to do the oil change today and after I took it to the shop and got the HG job done the mechanic said that the heads had been polished and everything was ok , the oil had tons of water on it no point in changing the oil , I am taking it back tomorrow :/
