I got my cherokees motor 4.0 rebuild about 8 months ago , i have never had a problem with it , i has driving it the over day careless me did not see it was over heating until the jeep just stopped , I took the radiator to get checked and the guy said I needed a new one , installed the new radiator and today I checked again cuz the temp was going a little over 210 and yes it needed more water , when I checked the dipstick the oil looks all chokolate like , so I guess thats where the water was going

I dont know nothing much of mechanics , just wanted some advice , if this happend , do I have to rebuild the motor again ?

Sounds like the head gasket went but more than likely you cracked the head because of what one it is. Take the valve cover off and look for a crack between 3 and 4. It will likely be small

some stuff to read

https://www.google.com/search?q=0331...hrome&ie=UTF-8

depending on how long you have driven it with this condition will dictate if you need another motor, rod bearings are what wears under those conditions

why did you get it rebuilt in the first place? what failed?

If you kept driving it while it was hot and until it died. It may be very possible that you are going to be in the market for another engine! BTW, How can you not know that you where over heating??? There are several signs such as your temp gauge, steam coming from the engine compartment, smells.

Did the rebuild come with a warranty?

Cracked head. Time to drop the pan and inspect the bearings to check for damage from the water being in the oil.

heres what todo..
1. drain oil asap.
2.flush engine with a engine flush and drain. you can leave it dry (drain plug out)
next your going find the mechanic that is going to pull your head off and put your new one on. save your self the time and money DONT get the head checked for cracks because its almost 90% that its going to be. find your used head have it magnifluxed to check for cracks and resurfaced or you can go with other new replacements that cost around 600 dollars with 12000 mile warranty or do what i and many other smart 0331 head owners have done. call clearwater cylinder heads and order your replacement it will cost you 455.00 shipped to your door in a week they offer 5 year unlimited mile warranty as long as you dont cause damage or over heat it they will replace it at no charge to you.

The 2000 is the death year. I wish I would've done my research... seems like they ALL have this problem... not so much in the 01's, with the heads.

If they reused your OEM head during the first rebuild and a new HG fixed your issue, you may be the luckiest person who overheated a 0331 head (and drove it that way till it stopped) and did not crack it.
Keep an eye on the coolant reservoir....

I noticed the coolant reservoir does waste water like 2 days ago I filled it up to half and today it was closed to empty , what does this mean ? the jeep in not heating up and is running perfectly , I did buy the HG kit like it the half motor kit
