Default Check Guages

Ive got a 98 XJ Classic and My check guages light is on. I know what is causing it. When the light comes on it shows my battery guage is dropped but it is a brand new battery. I can turn off the jeep and turn it back on and it will work fine but when I start to drive the guage stops working but all my electrical stuff works fine. Since I know my its my Battery Guage that is doing it where should I start to fix the problem. I have cleaned the posts and the grounds are fine. Where else should I look.

Check and clean all grounds and power connections for the starting and charging system.

Pull the cluster and clean the contacts.

The signal sent to the Battery gauge comes directly from the PCM via the CCD Bus. The voltage indicated is not monitered by a sensor.

sorry to bump old threads, i have this exact problem happening in my jeep, the radar detector (has a voltage meter on it) also lets me know at the exact time the gauge fails. is this because it is hooked up to the fuse box that controls the dash lights n all that jazz?

im a beginner with engines but i love projects so could u be a little more thorough with how to clean the connections and such, where everything is located and such

I haven't checked anything yet.
The gauge light will fail, and the radar will also fail, then the radar returns to full voltage power reading around 13-14, but the dash gauge stays at 0 with the check gauge warning displayed until i shut the car off/on again.

Sometimes it doesn't do this at all, sometimes it happens all day long.

The lights will dim slightly when it first happens, then return to normal.

Could it be a fuse in the fuse box possibly? I also have red LED foot well lights attached to this fuse box.

Idk if it matters or not, but there is a clicky sound coming from a small black box under the hood near the airfilter, closer to the firewall (97 laredo) but its been doing that for at least a month or 2 now, the guage problem only started a few days ago.

same thing happened once to me. i dont know the exact reason. on older cars mobile hone signals may effect several things.

once, on our previous bmw 1996 5 series, we lost all dashboard for 1 minute after starting car, at that time mobile phone was turned on. after restarting car it returned back to normal.

on older ford explorers they may not bu started if they are close to mobile phone antennas around city. you need to reprogram immobilizers by getting close to rear fender and clicking remote button.
